What to Expect From Your Session 30A Family Photo Session
I photograph relaxed, unposed family photos on 30A that feel more like your vacation than a photoshoot.
If you’re looking for a 30A family photographer, here’s what to expect from your family photo session, how it works, and how to prepare.
Families often tell me they’re worried their kids won’t cooperate, their partner hates being photographed, or they have no idea what to wear. The good news? None of that matters here.
My sessions are relaxed and unposed, focused on your family just being together. Sandy toddlers, teenagers with attitude, snack breaks, and chaos are all part of it.
How do I prepare?
You don’t need matching outfits or perfectly behaved kids. Most families are on vacation, and I want your photos to feel like your vacation.
After booking your 30A family photo session, I’ll send over a planning guide with location ideas, activity suggestions, outfit tips, and everything you need to know before your session.
What should we wear?
Wear something you feel comfortable in.
Neutral tones and simple clothing photograph beautifully, but the most important thing is that everyone feels like themselves.
Barefoot, messy hair, swimsuits, and whatever your kids would normally wear are all fine.
You might even let your kids pick what they want to wear, so it reflects who they are right now and adds to the story.
You don’t have to match or coordinate unless you want to. The goal is to look and feel like your family
What happens during a session?
Not posing.
Your family spends time together while I document what naturally happens.
That might look like:
• building sandcastles
• playing football or bocce ball
• getting ice cream
• swimming in the ocean, a dune lake, or a pool
• making pancakes at your rental
• chasing toddlers through the sand
• having a beach bonfire
If you’d like a few photos of everyone looking at the camera, I can do that briefly at the beginning or end when the light is best. Just let me know.
The rest of the time is simple: your family together, doing what you would normally do.
The goal is not just beautiful photos, but memories your family will keep and pass down.
What if my kids act up?
Good! Mischief makes for great photos. All kids act up. It’s part of family life.
What if my partner doesn't like having their photo taken?
They’re not alone. That’s why documentary family sessions are a hit with dads. They don’t have to perform or be bribed, they just get to hang out with their family.
If we are having the session at our house or rental, does it have to be spotless?
No way!
Real life is messy, especially with kids. Everyday clean is completely fine.
I’m much more focused on connection and moments than perfect countertops.
Do we need to plan activities?
You don’t need a detailed plan, but it can help to have a few simple activity ideas in mind, especially for shorter sessions.
Activities help create a variety of images in a limited amount of time. It keeps things relaxed and gives us more to work with, without anything feeling staged or forced.
If you want help with ideas, I’m always happy to help. After booking, I’ll send a planning guide with suggestions.
Will our life actually look interesting in photos?
Yes!
The things people often overlook are usually the ones they end up wanting to remember most. Sandy feet, bedtime stories, popsicle faces, kids pulling your hand toward the water, and everyone piled onto the sofa, exhausted after a beach day.
You do not need to perform or create moments. They’re already happening!
In short, this is super easy and fun, with no expectations.

Krista did an amazing job with the photos of my friends and I on my bachelorette! She blended in seamlessly with our group and was able to capture such candid shots that were also great quality. Looking back at all of the photos brings back such fun memories and the pure joy we had. Highly recommend!
5 Stars!
